Endodontic Specialty Practice
   Root Canal Therapy

Dr. Aker

Dr. Frank Aker

My name is Frank Aker. I'm an Endodontist with more than 35 years' experience. I've been in the Metroplex area since 2000 and practice in Carrollton.  The practice philosophy is "quality treatment provided with care and compassion."

As a Navy Endodontist (1973-1993), I served with the Marines for 15 years. This was both a challenge and an education in practicing my profession.  I worked on boot campers, veterans, retired commandants and foreign military.  I learned to work with what I had.  I worked in the open, tents, mess halls, trailers, all sizes of clinics and hospitals (some real, others in name).

The Marine way "hands on control," initially presented a challenge.  During a brief firefight (Marines don't hesitate to dominate any situation) I saw first hand why they are considered our toughest and bravest.  The challenge presented to me was when they heard the words "root canal".

I had to develop techniques that would gain their trust while providing a painless dental experience.  I started by going on patrols, then began to handle toothache emergencies.  Slowly, I was accepted enough to handle their other dental needs.

I took advantage of ALL the educational opportunities offered me by the Navy.  This was beyond the Sea Bee's World Tour.  Following Battalion Ops School, I was sent to Quantico for the C&S Command College then straight to Newport for Naval War College.  My thesis attracted the attention of Major General Patton Jr and I was given permission to expand it under his guidance.  The work was published as a military text, "October 1973".  The Dental Corps also encouraged me to publish.  I updated their dental manuals and published two additional texts, "The Inflammatory Reaction" and "Elements of Medical Terminology".  I still write and contribute to the literature with over 20 peer reviewed articles.  My biggest reward comes from their inclusion in various textual bibliographies.

In conclusion, my efforts are all firmly planted in core values gleaned from my Military Service.  Showing patients compassion and empathy while providing a relaxed atmosphere (rank had no place in my clinic).  Giving patients treatment in a professional manner, maintaining integrity, and being attentive to their needs (I learned to listen), and concerns.  I treat every patient as if they were a member of my own family.

I truly look forward to meeting and working with you and your dentist.

Sincerely,

Frank Aker, DMD, FAGD
